GH Nagai Photographics

Welcome...

Here you will find various aspects of my love and work with camera and lens - weddings and special events, portraiture, photography classes, and most recently the beginning of a family business started with my daughter under the name Nagai Photography - Learn more about the latter in the section The Photographer...

I have a special love for my teaching of photography - my favorite course is one I call Can Photographers Fly...? In it we explore how one as a photographer sees - it is all about vision, about a specific approach to photography involving elements of art appreciation, meditation, and technical aspects of the science of the camera. The approach is meditative in nature, and enables one to identify, or discover, and especially to embrace, one's personal voice in the art of photography - one's visual voice.

My second class is on the Basic Camera, and is designed for those too lazy to read the manual. In it we look at the camera with all its bells and whistles, and the myriad mysterious, sometimes aggravating, and perhaps intimidating operating icons seen in the viewfinder. One leaves with a knowledge of what the camera can do, what it cannot do, and with an understanding of the language of icons the camera uses to communicate with you the status of your work with light and shadows, subject and field...

The third class, Metering Light: The Third Eye in Photography, addresses the surprising limitations of film and digital memory sensors in accepting light and retaining detail, and how you as the artist can account for and work with ambient lighting. Through the use of the camera's focusing and metering systems, flash to work with the realms of highlights and shadows, and most importantly through understanding both the technology of the camera and the science and nature of light, we demystify the two primary elements in all photography, light and shadow...

I have several photo galleries, places where you can see my work, that serve as a window into my inner workings as an artist. Check out the Site, wander through the various sections, and plan to stay a spell...

And if in your wandering you'd like to leave a comment or question for me, there are several locations throughout this Site where you can send me an email message...
