Proud Parents: Diana & Chris

My daughter, Diana, invited Barbara and me to be present in the delivery room with her and Chris for the delivery of their daughter, Venice Takara. Of course, the Doula would be there, and various and sundry nurses, and at the appropriate timing, their doctor, who would be the primary medical person to oversee Venice's arrival. After we received the call at around 5:20 that Diana's water had broken and they were on their way to the delivery room, we pulled together and left around 6:00 and drove the corridor from Berkeley to Rocklin, a stone's throw east of Sacramento. We arrived at the hospital just before 8:00 PM, with plenty of time to spare as it turned out...

Diana had a "routine" exam at 8:30, at which time she was at 8 cm dilated, and the pace of things began to speed up...

Everything went well, though with wee Venice Takara taking her own sweet time in making the scene. Labor was something like 5 hours overall, with the hard pushing coming in the last 60+ minutes from around 8:30. This was an amazing experience all around - definitely for Diana and Chris, who as new parents welcomed Venice Takara, but also for us grandparents - hot damn, it would be wonderful to know what Venice Takara thought...!
