Ean & Alex
My wife and I went to Cal with Alex's dad back in the late 50s and early 60s, so we've known Alex since he was born. We were like second family to him, and his parents likewise to our son. It was a pleasure and privilege to be asked to photograph this wedding...
Ean comes to this union bringing a beauty from her Chinese heritage, and mixes with it her own life experiences in Laos and Thailand, and a hint of life in Cambodia on her mother's side. Ean and Alex met at a swing dance class at the University of Hawaii, where things obviously took just the right steps and turns - is this romantic, or what...? |

Ean and Alex had a double ceremony on this day - in the morning a traditional Chinese wedding, where Alex came with his family to Ean's family home with a dowery to "negotiate" and secure her for his wife. A mixture of ceremony and protocol, with a decided undercurrent of mirth and a light touch, Alex completed the ceremony by singing to his beloved, finding her missing shoe, and with her serving tea to her parents, relatives, and to his parents and family members. The afternoon ceremony was more of a western affair, though with nice touches worked out between Ean and Alex and their officiants, David and Penney, Alex's uncle and aunt - in all, a beautiful day... |
